Early in my career, I wrote an article for a small business magazine about self-publishing as a marketing tool for businesses. A few months later it was published. Almost immediately, my phone began to ring and my email box filled up with inquires.
In one instance, a reader (who became a client) hired me after reading the article even though her company had almost finalized a decision to hire a competitor. "We came across your article, and it made all the difference," she said. "We knew from your article that you could help us."
Getting quoted as an expert and publishing articles about your business in print media read is one of the most powerful marketing strategies available. Appearing in print exposes your business to thousands of prospects that otherwise would never hear about you. It pre-sells readers of your abilities and helps you enjoy these benefits:
Attract New Clients -- Appearing in targeted print media has the potential to attract prospects. Just one article in a magazine can bring your company dozens leads and potential clients
Free Exposure -‹ You get from one to three magazine pages worth thousands of dollars in advertising costs devoted entirely to your business‹for free!
Instant Credibility -- Unlike advertising, articles are "news" with far more credibility as editorial matter. People who responded to articles about your business are often pre-sold on your abilities
Prestige -- Publishing puts you in the big leagues, establishing you as an expert and authority
Secondary Benefits -- Article reprints make excellent marketing materials, easily replacing expensive brochures, mailers, and newsletters
Although getting "slightly" famous in print requires some work, the good news is that you don't have to be a professional journalist or a nationally recognized authority to get "slightly" famous in print. And with over 10,000 publications in circulation today, your opportunities are virtually unlimited!

Our company provides training, marketing and consulting services for businesses pursuing cross Pacific ventures. Because we target specific market niches, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology and manufacturing industries, we were looking for ways to quickly and cost-effectively establish a presence in our marketplace.
We ruled out advertising as too expensive. Plus, we needed to establish our credibility to show prospects that we knew what we were talking about. That's why we decided to pursue free print media exposure for our company.
In a period of only 60 days, we've used Steven Van Yoder's "Get Slightly Famous--In Print" system with great success. So far, we've had an had our first article accepted for publication in PharmaVoice, a major trade publication, and have a second opportunity to contribute an article to yet another industry magazine that reaches our target audience.
We were surprised that publishing in magazines that reach our target market could be so fast and easy!
When I learned about Get Slightly Famous--In Print, describing what it could do to get articles written and published for my executive search firm, I was interested - this service looked like what I'd been looking for. And I have been pleased with the results!
My firm has been quoted in leading periodicals and we have begun to develop relationships with journalists. We've had articles published that position us as experts. The Get Slightly Famous system has educated us about the process and we feel much more knowledgeable as a result.

From fillers to features, most magazines you see on newsstands every day rely on outside contributors for at least some of their content. No, you don't have to have a cousin in the publishing world to see your name in print. You just have to learn and follow the same rules as journalists, and one day editors will be calling you.
This teleclass will provide a step-by-step tour of how to get your work in publications that reach your target market. Once you learn the ropes, you'll find that placing articles in publications relevant to your business is a powerful and effective way to market your services. Session Three: Become A Media Resource
(Live teleclass, Wednesday June 23, 11am Pacific; 2pm Eastern)
Journalists rely on outside experts to make their stories lively and interesting. Because journalists are not usually expert in the subjects they write about, outside sources help give their stories authority and provide a real-world connection to readers.
Being quoted in one story increases the chances that other reporters will recognize your expertise and call you for similar stories. The more you are quoted and written about, the more you will be seen by your prospects as a serious contributor to your industry. This is the position you want, and it's not difficult to achieve.
This teleclass will show you how to position yourself as a media resource to journalists and editors that reach your target market. You'll learn:
How to create a media file of newspapers, magazines, newsletters where you want to get coverage
How to identify the key people within publications that reach your target market.
How to study the individual publications to gain a better understanding of how to approach them and get coverage
How to create a press kit and other media materials you'll need when introducing yourself to editors and journalists
How to use press releases effectively
How to get quoted in print media and give a good interview
Guests:
Shel Horowitz, a PR consultant, speaker, and author of six books, including Grassroots Marketing: Getting Noticed in a Noisy World, has been quoted in hundreds of news articles in publications including Fortune Small Business, Wall Street Journal, Inc, Entrepreneur and New York Times.
